Content
In this semester, the course on Advanced Particle Physics and the course Introduction to the Standard Model are combined into a single lecture. The lecture will give an introduction into the experimental foundation of today's understanding of the sub-nuclear physics and will introduce the Standard Model, the theoretical description of particle physics. The gauge theories of electroweak and strong interactions and their experimental tests will be described. The present status of the Standard Model, open experimental questions, and possible beyond the Standard Model physics are discussed.
The lectcure is meant for students whose interest in particle physics was triggerd during the course lecture "Physik 5".
The course is part of the program of the "Heidelberg Graduate School of Fundamental Physics". It is recommended for diploma and doctoral students in experimental/theoretical particle physics.
