This page is supposed to be a collection of (hopefully) useful links. Clearly, this list is a list of items that I think might be useful, it is not meant to be representative and may well be biased. I added some comments to the links to give you some idea where to start, but this is just my personal feeling - yours may well be different. If you have suggestions for additions or comments, please let me know.

http://www.gnu.org/software/emacs: emacs text editor (edits files, lets you read e-mail, comes with free psychiatrist and is reported to do the washing up if your hardware supports it - see also its reference card)
http://www.nano-editor.org: nano text editor (simple editor for the basic needs)
http://joe-editor.sourceforge.net: joe text editor (simple text editor, with syntax highlighting, but unfortunately not preinstalled on CIP pool machines - easy to install, though)
http://www.vim.org: the VIM text editor (some people love it, some hate it, but it's quite powerful)

programming and related things
