The lecture Geometric Algebra for Physicists is intended to give students a practical overview of geometric algebra and its applications. It is neither a formal mathematics lecture nor a sermon about how geometric algebra is the “one true language of physics” - instead, we want to show hands-on how we can simplify everyday calculations and improve our physical intuition with geometric algebra.
Time and location
The SuSe 24 lecture has been cancelled due to an organizational problem.
Prerequisites
The lecture is targeted at fourth-semester Bachelor students or above. In particular, we assume knowledge of:
- traditional matrix-vector calculus
- common vector integration theorems
- electromagnetism
- basic quantum mechanics
Contents
In the lecture, we discuss:
- The geometric algebra of space Cl(3)
- Spacetime algebra Cl(1, 3)
- Conversion between GA and tensor notation
- Electromagnetism with GA
- Geometric calculus
- Spinors with GA
Exam
An exam will be held at the end of the lecture. The time is TBA.
